HOW TO MAKE MONEY ON DONUTSMP

This page is about one method: buying materials through /orders, crafting them into something worth more, and delivering the result into somebody else’s standing order. It is not the only way to earn on the server, and it is the only one this site measures.

The idea in one example

Somebody wants gold blocks and has an order out at $11,000 each. Gold ingots are changing hands at around $1,000. Nine ingots make one block.

9 × gold ingot $9,000 out
1 × gold block $11,000 in
                --------
profit $2,000 per craft

That is the whole trade. The work is not the crafting — it is finding which of the eight hundred and something tradeable items are currently mispriced against each other, and that changes hour by hour.

How you actually place the trade

  1. 1Type /orders <item> in game to see the standing orders for it.
  2. 2Place your own buy order slightly above the best one, so yours fills first.
  3. 3Wait. Other players deliver the items into your order — this is the slow part.
  4. 4Craft what you bought.
  5. 5Deliver the result into the standing orders for the output.

Trap one: the best price is not the market

Every price you see has a quantity behind it, and it is usually small. A gold block book on this server once had its top order at $11,100 for 1,971 units, and millions of units of lowball orders at $10 far below it.

Price your craft off the biggest pile and you get a trade that looks worth six hundred million dollars. Nobody sells an $11,100 block for $10 — that order simply never fills, and a profit that depends on it is not a profit.

A craft that pays beautifully for the first 500 runs can lose money on run 501, because the good orders are gone.

Trap two: somebody has to deliver it

When you place an order you are not buying anything. You are asking strangers to go and gather items and hand them over, at whatever your order pays.

There is a standing order on this server for two million lime carpets. It has received 129. The profit per craft is real; nobody is filling it, because seven dollars is not worth anybody’s evening.

So the number that decides a trade is not the profit. It is how many units somebody has to hand you before the profit is worth having, and how little each of those units pays them.

What this page does not cover

Mining, farming, mob grinding, the auction house, PvP and shop flipping all earn money on DonutSMP. This site has no data on any of them and will not pretend otherwise.

Crafting arbitrage suits somebody who would rather watch a market than grind. It needs capital up front, it needs patience while orders fill, and the good ones disappear when other people find them.

A community tool. Not official and not affiliated with Mojang or DonutSMP. Prices come from public in-game order books and are only as current as the last scan — what these numbers are.
